This post is a few days overdue. For that I apologize, but the thoughts are still there, and still valid.
During Saturday’s ESPN Lovefest for Virginia Tech, I began to wonder how long this will continue? The tragic events on that campus took place nearly five months ago, and yet we were reminded again of the day and its aftermath. How much longer will the media force-feed us all things Hokie? It’s over, folks. I beg of you – PLEASE – let it go.
I appreciate the gravity, seriousness, and tragedy of the situation, and I grieve for the victims and their families, but can’t we let them rest and recover in peace? Do we really need to be told how special and unique Blacksburg and Virginia Tech are? If this happened at any other Division I football-playing school, the reaction and response would be the same. Virginia Tech is no more or less special than anywhere else, so can we please stop treating the school as if it were?
